If you haven’t been to Herefordshire you need to see this.

On this trip, I found myself wandering through historic market towns, canoeing along one of the UK’s most beautiful rivers, staying in a treehouse surrounded by nature, and even trekking through the countryside with llamas.

A few highlights I’d recommend:

🏠 Exploring the charming streets of Ledbury

🏰 Getting lost in the gardens and maze at Hampton Court Castle

🛏 Staying in a treehouse at The Fold

🦙 Llama trekking in the foothills of the Black Mountains

🛶 Canoeing down the River Wye

🏞 Taking in the views from Symonds Yat Rock

It’s the kind of county that quietly surprises you. Beautiful landscapes, fascinating history and plenty of experiences that feel a little different from the usual UK getaway.

Have you visited Herefordshire before? I’d love to know your favourite spot 👇

ᵃᵈ📌 Save this for your next city break.

Athens is only around a 3 hour 45 minute direct flight from London. 🇬🇷

Athens had never really been on my city break bucket list, and I don’t really know why. I knew about the history, but I hadn’t realised just how much variety there was.

We wandered through ancient ruins, explored colourful neighbourhoods, enjoyed rooftop drinks overlooking the city, ate fresh seafood by the coast and watched some of the most beautiful sunsets. I enjoyed every minute.

We used @freenowbylyft for the whole trip, starting right from the airport. I loved that I could use the same app I already use in the UK, the airport pick-up was really easy to find and the fare was fixed, so there were no surprises. The drivers were incredibly friendly, the cars were spotless, and after using it throughout the trip I can see why it’s Greece’s no1 taxi app. It also works in over 20 cities across Greece, so I’ll definitely be using it again on my next visit.

You can also use my code AMY50 to get 50% off your first Freenow by Lyft ride (up to £6).

Places I’d recommend in Athens:
🏛️ Acropolis - Athens’ most iconic landmark and one of the world’s most famous ancient sites.
🏛️ Ancient Agora - Explore one of Athens’ best preserved ancient sites.
🤍 Anafiotika - Whitewashed streets that feel more like a Greek island.
🍽️ Plaka - Greek lunch and a wander through the historic streets.
🛍️ Monastiraki - Markets, cafés and one of the liveliest areas in the city.
🍸 Rooftop drinks - Sunset views over Athens.
🏖️ Athens Riviera - Escape to the coast before fresh seafood by the water.

📍 Location at the end 📍

I’ve always loved Monet’s work. I used to paint with watercolours when I was younger and art was always my favourite subject growing up, so finally seeing the gardens that inspired so many of his paintings was really special. I could completely understand why he spent more than 40 years painting here.

I had no idea it was only an hour from Paris. We caught the Nomad train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny, then hopped on the shuttle into the village, making it such an easy day trip without needing a car.

🚆 Getting there
🚉 Paris Saint-Lazare → Vernon-Giverny (Nomad train from €10 each way)
🚌 Shuttle from Vernon-Giverny station to Giverny (€10 return)
⏱️ Around 1 hour by train from Paris
🌸 Don’t miss
🎨 Monet’s house and gardens
🌉 The famous Japanese bridge and water lily pond
🥐 Lunch in the village or at Hôtel Baudy, where artists including Cézanne and Rodin once gathered
🖼️ The Musée des Impressionnismes if you have time afterwards

For me, this was one of those places that reminded me why I love travelling. It’s another side of Normandy that feels completely different to the coastline and historic landmarks, and somewhere I’d happily return to again and again.

📍 Location at the end 📍

It’s always the place I want to take people whenever I’m back home visiting Devon because I know it’ll leave an impression. To me, it has some of the best coastal views in the UK, yet it doesn’t entirely feel like England. It’s small enough to feel like a real escape, where you can slow down, switch off and forget about the outside world for a while.

Together with neighbouring Lynton, it’s been known as England’s Little Switzerland since the early 1800s. The nickname came from its steep wooded hills, deep river valleys and rugged scenery, which reminded early visitors of the Swiss Alps, only here it all meets the sea.

It has also just been voted Devon’s best seaside town by thousands of Which? readers, and after visiting so many times, I can completely understand why.

Don’t miss the world’s highest and steepest fully water-powered Cliff Railway, wander around the harbour, browse the independent shops and follow the river as it meets the sea. If you have time, I’d also recommend the beautiful walk to Watersmeet and nearby Valley of Rocks.

📍 Location at the end 📍

This award winning attraction is one of the most immersive places I’ve visited in the UK.

I loved being able to step inside homes, chat to the costumed characters, explore historic shops, ride the vintage fairground and even go down a mine. It made British history so much more interesting than I ever expected.

The museum takes you through 250 years of history, with areas spanning the 1790s to the 1960s, so there’s loads to explore.

Some of my highlights:

🧼 Wandering through the cast iron homes with floral wallpaper and black and white TVs.

🎶 Browsing records in the 1950s shop.

🍬 Buying sweets that reminded me of childhood.

🏫 Watching Luke nearly get the cane in the Edwardian classroom (don’t worry, no Lukes were harmed 😂).

🍟 Eating proper fish and chips fried in beef dripping and wrapped in paper.

🎡 Exploring the vintage fairground with penny slots, a ghost train and traditional gallopers.

⛏️ Going underground to experience what life was like working in a Victorian coal mine.

One thing I didn’t know before visiting was that your ticket includes unlimited daytime return visits for 12 months, so there’s no pressure to fit everything into one day.

I’d always assumed you needed a car to visit this place, but it turned out to be much easier than I expected.

One of the things that surprised me most about exploring Normandy was just how easy it is by train.

We caught the Nomad train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Pontorson-Mont-Saint-Michel, then hopped on the waiting shuttle, which takes you almost all the way to the entrance. It meant we could simply enjoy the journey instead of worrying about driving or parking.

🚆 Getting there
🚉 Paris Saint-Lazare → Pontorson-Mont-Saint-Michel
🚌 Waiting shuttle from the station to the entrance
⏱️ Around 4½ hours including the shuttle
💶 Fares from around €32

✨ Don’t miss
⛪ Climbing up to the abbey that’s stood here for over 1,000 years
🏘️ Wandering the medieval streets
🥖 Lunch overlooking the bay
🥾 A guided walk when the tide is low
🌅 Watching the island glow from the dam at sunset
🧳 Staying overnight to experience it after the day visitors have left

Mont Saint-Michel may be Normandy’s most famous landmark, but it’s just one of the incredible places you can discover across the region by train.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a spa break, I’d definitely put this one on your list.

The spa is home to the UK’s first Rooftop Spa & Garden, where you can move between the infinity pool, hydrotherapy experiences, panoramic sauna and steam room, before unwinding in the oxygen room. If you fancy treating yourself, there’s also a full menu of spa treatments, and we finished our stay with a lovely dinner before staying the night.

I found this stay on Secret Escapes with breakfast included, and it’s one of the first places I check when I’m looking for a luxury getaway because so many of their stays come with little extras too, whether that’s breakfast, dining credit, spa treatments or room upgrades.

You can also use my code VOYAGE25 to get £25 off your next Secret Escapes booking when you spend £175 or more. T&Cs: £25 off a minimum spend of £175. Expires 26/07/26 at 23:59.
