Once gifted by William the Conqueror to his Queen, this timeless village clings to a 400-foot cliff, offering sweeping coastal views and centuries of charm.

Listed in the Domesday Book, the village remains under private ownership, which has helped preserve its cobbled, traffic-free streets. Goods are still transported by wooden sledges, and donkeys remain a symbol of village life.

Wander romantic lanes, explore the working harbour and 14th-century quay, and uncover these highlights (all included in your entry fee):

— The Donkeys
Once the village’s main form of transport, they now live a peaceful life, with sledges doing the heavy lifting.

— Fisherman’s Cottage
Step into the 1930s in this fully furnished home, capturing daily life from a simpler time.

— Kingsley Museum
Celebrating Victorian author Charles Kingsley, who lived here and popularised the village with Westward Ho!.

— Beach Waterfall
At low tide, stroll to the beach waterfall and discover the cave behind it — said to be the home of Merlin the wizard.

Note: You can catch a transfer back to the top of Clovelly so you don’t have to hike back up! 😅
