Seeing this place from the river completely changed it for me. Rowing beneath historic bridges with views of one of England’s most iconic cathedrals made it feel like we were somewhere much quieter than a city.

I didn’t expect this part of Spain to surprise me as much as it did.

In just 5 days, we travelled through mountains, rivers, hidden coves and beautiful coastal towns, and it completely changed my perception of this region.

🌲 Day 1: Sierra de Espadán & Ayódar
Cork oak forests, peaceful trails and a swim in Pozo Negro.

💧 Day 2: Montanejos, Anna & Quesa
Thermal waters, waterfalls and some of the clearest natural pools I’ve ever seen.

🌊 Day 3: Jávea & Benitachell
Cala Moraig, Cala Granadella and Cala Portitxol.

🏖️ Day 4: Moraira & Altea
Relaxing beaches, whitewashed streets and a sunset on the water.

⛵ Day 5: Tabarca Island
Fresh seafood, crystal clear sea and one final swim before heading home.

What I loved most was the variety. One day we were surrounded by mountains, the next exploring hidden Mediterranean coves.

And it’s all just a short flight from the UK.

I’ve been visiting the Lake District every year for the last 12 years and every trip I try to find somewhere new to explore. This year, it was this walk.

Starting from Torver, it’s around an hour each way, with mountain views, old quarry tracks and plenty to see before you even reach the end.

The old slate quarry was worked for over 100 years, and the waterfall wasn’t always there. Over time, the beck broke through into the quarry, creating the waterfall that now flows into the pool below. It makes this one of the most unusual places I’ve visited in the Lakes.

If you’ve got the time, you can carry on towards the Old Man of Coniston and make a full day of it.

I know you all love these beautiful places as much as I do, so if you visit, please travel off-peak where you can, stick to the paths, take your litter home and leave everything as you found it so we can all enjoy these places for years to come. ❤️

My dad used to say this to my mum all the time.

At the time, I didn’t fully appreciate what he meant.

I thought the most incredible places were somewhere else.

Somewhere further away.

Somewhere I needed a passport to reach.

But the older I’ve got, the more I’ve realised that going further away doesn’t automatically make somewhere better.

Every time I come back to North Devon, where I grew up, I’m reminded of that.

Not because it’s perfect.

Not because the weather always behaves.

And not because I’d never want to travel abroad.

But because some of the most beautiful places and memorable moments can be much closer to home than we realise.

While we’re busy looking elsewhere, we sometimes forget that places like this are on someone else’s bucket list.

The more time passes, the more I realise my dad was right.

Sadly he’s no longer here, but I still think about his words all the time ❤️

Amazing escape in the Lake District 😍

For everyone who asks me where to stay in the Lake District, this is one I’d happily recommend.

I stayed in one of the shepherd’s huts overlooking Ullswater and it felt like a proper escape. Think lake views, fresh air, walks straight from your door, a spa, wood fired pizza and even a stargazing roof above your bed.
