Before this trip, I wasn’t sure if 72 hours would be enough to explore Normandy, but it never felt rushed.

We used @flyingblue Miles for both our flights from London to Paris and our Hertz hire car, which made the whole trip really easy. I’d only ever thought of using Miles for flights before, so being able to use them towards our car too was such a bonus.

The drives between each stop were short, which meant we spent less time in the car and more time wandering colourful harbour towns, relaxing by the beach, discovering storybook villages and stopping whenever something caught our eye along the way.

Those unplanned moments ended up being some of my favourites.

Looking back, I think that’s what made this trip so special. We never felt like we were rushing from one place to the next. We simply explored at our own pace and enjoyed the journey.

If you’re looking for an easy road trip that feels a world away but is surprisingly simple to do from the UK, I’d genuinely recommend this one.

I’ve visited some incredible places around the UK, but these are some of the most unusual from colourful former mines and turquoise quarries to waterfalls, mountain lakes and an Italian-inspired village.

1️⃣ Parys Mountain, Anglesey, Wales – an old copper mine with incredible red, orange and yellow landscapes.

2️⃣ Lydford Gorge, Devon – a beautiful walk through a deep, moss-covered gorge with waterfalls hidden amongst the woodland.

3️⃣ Portmeirion, North Wales – colourful Italian-inspired architecture in a setting you really wouldn’t expect to find in Wales.

4️⃣ Cwm Idwal, North Wales – a glacial lake surrounded by the mountains of Eryri, reached by a relatively short walk.

5️⃣ Elterwater Quarry, Lake District – an old slate quarry with striking blue-green water tucked away in the fells.

6️⃣ Hodge Close Quarry, Lake District – huge rock faces, flooded quarry workings, caves and old tunnels to explore.

7️⃣ North York Moors, Yorkshire – visit in late summer to see the moors covered in purple heather 💜

Pretty villages, loads of history, great food and such an easy trip to do.

We flew London to Paris in just 45 minutes and used @flyingblue Miles to pay for both our flight and Hertz car hire, then drove around 2 hours to Honfleur and based ourselves there for all 3 days.

DAY 1 — HONFLEUR
📍 Our base
• Vieux Bassin harbour
• Sainte-Catherine Church
• Old town, shops + a long lunch

DAY 2 — DEAUVILLE
🚗 ~20 mins from Honfleur
• Deauville Beach + colourful parasols
• Les Planches + the Art Deco beach cabins
• Cafés, boutiques + shopping in town

DAY 3 — NORMANDY CIDER ROUTE
🚗 ~40 mins to Beuvron-en-Auge
• Follow the country lanes
• Stop at a cider producer along the way

You can stay in the character-filled historic rooms or the newer Wellness Rooms. Ours had outside space and a freestanding bath, and it was so peaceful we even ordered room service one night just to make the most of the downtime.

The adults-only spa has pools, hydrotherapy, saunas, steam rooms and relaxation spaces, plus a Deep Relaxation Room for after treatments.

There are also complimentary wellbeing classes, with sessions such as yoga and Pilates depending on the timetable.

My GAIA Bespoke Massage was a highlight. It felt genuinely therapeutic, like my body was actually being cared for rather than someone simply going through the motions.

We also had breakfast and lunch in our robes, Teddy Bear’s Picnic Afternoon Tea and dinner at Michelin-starred Àclèaf.

And the history makes it even more special. Queen Elizabeth I reportedly once stayed here.

We came home feeling fully recharged. Definitely one to add to your UK spa list.
