4 Amazing Spa Hotels in the Lake District

The Lake District, in Cumbria, is an incredibly popular holiday destination with visitors from all over the world. It is estimated that around 15 million people visit every year to take in the stunning countryside, breath-taking views, lakes and of course its cultural heritage.

Having nurtured the literary talents of poets such as Wordsworth and Coleridge and the writers Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransom, the area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017 and it really isn’t hard to see why. The Lake District isn’t just a great location for climbing and hiking though, it is also home to some truly fantastic Spa Hotels popular with those visitors who are looking to admire the scenery and relax.

It is hard to miss the impressive Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa as you travel through the Lake District, nestled as it is at the side of the A591 – the main road from Windemere to the Southern Lakes. While its roadside location may put some visitors off it really shouldn’t, the Low Wood have built up a well-deserved reputation for luxurious surroundings. Once an 18th-century coaching inn, the ivy covered black and white building is now home to an impressive spa and luxury 4-star hotel with views out over Lake Windemere. The Low Wood has recently undergone a £20m refurbishment programme and now offers guests even more luxury amenities. The newly created spa offers a range of luxury massage treatments – including some that are perfect for soothing hiking-weary bodies, two infinity pools, both indoor and outdoor, an outdoor sauna and a gym.

Lodore Falls Hotel

At the northern end of the Lake District lies Derwentwater, and its beautiful lakes, mountains and waterfalls. The Lodore Falls Hotel is Victorian lodge-stye building that is typical for the architecture of the area. What is not typical, however, is the stunning spa that lies within its building. The building itself is completely up to date with a thoroughly contemporary feeling to its décor. The Falls Spa however is the ultimate in luxury – with views that look out over the spectacular scenery of nearby Skiddaw and Catsbells the spa boasts an outdoor hydrotherapy pool, thermal suite and champagne bar. There is also a private Rasul room which offers Arabian wellness rituals and “Liquid Gold” scalp massages.

Guests who are looking to explore the local area can take advantage of the free boat hire that the hotel offers to explore Derwentwater itself. The restaurant options at the hotel are also worth a mention, with an Asian dining experience that offers an award-winning menu and a two rosette restaurant which showcases some of the finest local produce.
