11 of the Best Luxury Spa Breaks in the UK

Dec 12, 2025

If I’m being honest, a good spa break is one of the first things I book when I know I need to properly switch off. Over the years, I’ve stayed in spa hotels all over the UK, from countryside retreats to coastal escapes, and these are the luxury spa breaks I genuinely think are worth planning a trip around. Every spa on this list is somewhere I’d happily book again, whether you’re looking for total relaxation, a romantic weekend away, or somewhere special to celebrate something.

Where possible, I’ve linked the exact spa hotels I’d choose myself, so you can check availability and prices easily if one catches your eye

Set on the banks of Loch Lomond, Cameron House is a brilliant option if you’re looking for a luxury spa break in Scotland with dramatic scenery all around you. While the spa isn’t located at the main hotel itself, it’s a short drive away at the Cameron Spa & Leisure Club, which makes it feel like a dedicated wellness escape.

The Thermal Experience is the highlight here. The rooftop infinity pool overlooks the surrounding gardens and hills rather than the loch, but it’s still incredibly peaceful and especially lovely when it’s cooler outside. Inside, there’s a calming caldarium, a hydrotherapy pool, and plenty of space to take things slowly rather than rushing through.

Getting here: Around 45 minutes by car from Glasgow, with Balloch station the closest train station

Best for: a relaxing spa break near Loch Lomond, couples, or a longer stay where you’re happy to combine hotel time with dedicated spa visits.

Lucknam Park is one of those places that feels special the moment you arrive. Set just outside Bath, on the edge of the Cotswolds, it combines classic country house elegance with one of the most impressive spa experiences in the UK.

The spa is housed in a beautifully restored stable block and feels calm, spacious and thoughtfully designed. There’s an outdoor saltwater pool that’s lovely year round, a full thermal suite with cabins you can move between slowly, and treatment rooms that really encourage you to switch off.

I had their crystal healing treatment, which blends reiki, massage and reflexology, and I left feeling incredibly calm and grounded. It’s one of those treatments where you genuinely notice the difference afterwards, feeling relaxed, balanced and properly rejuvenated.

Best for: a luxury spa break near the Cotswolds, romantic weekends, or a special occasion stay.

Getting here: Around 30 minutes by car from Bath, with Bath Spa station the nearest mainline station.

If I were booking again, I’d make sure to leave enough time to enjoy the spa without rushing. This is one of those luxury spa hotels in the UK where slowing down is very much part of the experience.

Bath, England

The Spa at No.15 Guesthouse feels completely different to larger spa hotels, and that’s exactly why it works so well. Tucked away in the historic city of Bath, it’s intimate, characterful and ideal if you’re after something more bespoke and indulgent.

We used the Copper Room, which is one of their most special spaces. It centres around a beautiful freestanding copper bath, designed for long, private soaks that help ease tension and properly calm the nervous system. It feels cocooning and quietly luxurious, with soft lighting and a real sense of escape, even though you’re right in the heart of the city.

The treatment rooms are tranquil and thoughtfully designed, and the whole spa experience feels personal rather than production line, which I really appreciated.

Best for: a luxury city spa break in Bath, solo pampering, or a slower add on to a weekend away.

Getting here: Right in central Bath, just a short walk from Bath Spa station.

If I were booking again, I’d choose this for a quieter, more intimate spa experience rather than a full thermal circuit. It’s one of those UK spa breaks that feels genuinely considered and very easy to enjoy.

North Yorkshire, England

Rudding Park is one of those luxury spa hotels that really surprises you, especially when you reach the rooftop. Set in the Yorkshire countryside, the Roof Top Spa Garden is the standout here and feels like a proper escape, with wide open views and space to slow right down.

The hydrotherapy infinity pools are the main draw and are lovely at any time of year, especially when it’s cooler and you can really linger. There are also herbal steam rooms and thermal spaces designed to move through gently rather than rush, which makes the whole experience feel much more relaxing.

Their award winning spa also offers immersive sound therapy sessions in the sensory zone, which are designed to help calm the mind as well as the body. It’s a great option if you want something that feels a bit more holistic and grounding, rather than just a traditional spa day.

Best for: a luxury spa break in the north of England, a special occasion, or a longer spa focused stay.

Getting here: Around 30 minutes by car from Harrogate, with Harrogate station the nearest mainline station.

5. Eden Hall Day Spa

Nottinghamshire, England

Eden Hall is one of the most well known day spas in the UK and a brilliant choice if you’re looking for a full day dedicated entirely to switching off. Set in the Nottinghamshire countryside, it feels like a proper wellness escape, even though it’s designed purely as a destination day spa rather than an overnight stay.

The facilities are extensive and beautifully laid out, including a saltwater vitality pool, a calming saunarium, and a thoughtfully designed thermal spa suite where you can move between experiences at your own pace. Outside, the spa garden is a real highlight, with space to sit quietly between treatments and enjoy some fresh air, which makes the whole experience feel even more restorative.

Dining is very much part of the experience here. Eden Hall has two places to eat, including The Vinery, where we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, and The Orchard Restaurant, which focuses on relaxed, nourishing spa dining. It makes the day feel complete and indulgent rather than just a spa visit.

Best for: a luxury day spa, spa days with friends, or a wellbeing reset without staying overnight.

Getting here: Around 30 minutes by car from Nottingham, with Newark North Gate the nearest mainline station.

If you’re planning a spa focused day rather than a full spa break, Eden Hall is one of the best spa experiences in the UK to add to your list.

Cheshire, England

The Manor House Spa feels like a wellness playground set in the countryside and is home to the UK’s first swim up bar in a spa. It’s one of those places that immediately feels different to more traditional spa experiences and works brilliantly if you want relaxation with a slightly more social feel.

The English Spa Garden sits at the heart of the experience, with outdoor heated pools, a hydrotherapy pool with jets, cold plunge pools and plenty of relaxed spaces to sit between sessions. Floating over to the swim up bar for a drink without leaving the water is a real highlight and adds to the sense that this spa is designed to be enjoyed slowly.

There’s also a salt steam chamber, herbal sauna and potting shed sauna, so you can mix warm and cool experiences throughout the day and really tailor the spa journey to how you’re feeling.

Best for: a fun but relaxing spa day, a wellness break with friends, or a countryside spa experience that feels a little different to the norm.

Getting here: Around 1 hour by car from Manchester, with Alsager station within walking distance.

Hertfordshire, England

Tucked away in the charming Hertfordshire countryside, Sopwell House feels like a proper retreat, yet it’s surprisingly close to London, which makes it ideal if you want a luxury spa break without a long journey. It’s the kind of place where you arrive and instantly feel removed from everyday life, even though you’re less than an hour from the city.

We stayed in one of the Mews Suites, which felt like having our own little house. Having a private hot tub meant we could take the spa day back to our room and continue relaxing in complete privacy, rather than feeling like the experience ended once we left the spa. It made the whole stay feel slower and far more indulgent.

The Cottonmill Spa offers an exclusive experience, with hydrotherapy pools, a panoramic sauna and an outdoor vitality pool. There’s also The Club at Cottonmill, known as the UK’s first private members’ spa, which adds to the calm, refined feel of the whole space.

Best for: a luxury spa break near London, couples wanting privacy, or a special occasion stay that still feels easy to reach.

Getting here: Around 45 minutes by car from London, with St Albans City station the nearest mainline station.

If I were booking again, I’d choose a Mews Suite without hesitation. Being able to combine spa facilities with your own private space so close to London makes this one of the most appealing luxury spa hotels in the UK

Grantley Hall is one of those spa hotels that genuinely feels like a special occasion. This is real luxury, the kind of place you book as a treat rather than a casual spa break, and every part of the experience reflects that.

The award winning spa is beautifully done and feels calm, elegant and indulgent. The snow room is particularly unique and something that really stands out, offering a bracing contrast to the warmth of the spa and leaving you feeling refreshed and energised. There’s also an indoor to outdoor hydrotherapy pool that’s perfect year round and easy to linger in without feeling rushed.

One thing I really loved is that if you’re staying overnight, there’s a great choice of restaurants outside of the spa itself. It means the whole experience feels rounded rather than spa focused from start to finish. That sense of choice adds to the feeling that this is somewhere very special.

The Three Graces Spa Lounge is ideal for a light bite or drink after treatments, especially if you want to ease back into the day slowly.

Best for: a luxury spa break in Yorkshire, milestone celebrations, or a proper treat where everything feels considered and elevated.

Getting here: Around 1 hour by car from Leeds, with Harrogate station the closest mainline station.

If you’re looking for a spa hotel that feels genuinely memorable, this is one of the most special luxury spa experiences in the UK.

9. Hoar Cross Hall

Staffordshire, England

Hoar Cross Hall blends luxury and relaxation with its grand Elizabethan manor setting and one of the largest spa resorts in Europe. This is a place that genuinely feels like a proper treat, with lots of space to unwind and unique experiences that make a stay here feel special rather than just “another spa day.”

The spa itself is extensive and beautifully thought out, with a saltwater vitality pool, plunge pools and a Nordic heat and ice suite that includes saunas, steam rooms and sensory showers. One of the standout spaces is the Snooze Room, where you can stretch out on heated water beds and really let your body soften into stillness between experiences.

Recently they added a new Spa Terrace, which elevates the outdoor experience even more. Here you’ll find a three-pool deck, a rustic sauna and a relaxed lounge area with cabanas, fire pits and a bar. It’s perfect for mixing warm and cool elements while enjoying fresh air and views of the grounds.

There are also plenty of elegant places to eat and drink on site, so if you’re staying overnight the whole experience can feel like a long, indulgent break rather than just a spa stop.

Best for: a luxury spa break in the Midlands, special occasion stays, or a long spa day that feels truly memorable.

Getting here: Around 1 hour by car from Birmingham, with Lichfield City station the nearest mainline station.

Cheshire, England

Carden Park Spa feels like a real treat, especially if you love being outdoors while still wrapped up in luxury. Set in the Cheshire countryside, the whole spa has a garden inspired feel that makes it incredibly relaxing from the moment you step in.

The Spa Garden is the highlight here, with hot tubs dotted around the space, beautiful countryside views and an outdoor champagne bar that makes the experience feel celebratory rather than rushed. It’s the kind of place where you naturally slow down, moving between pools and taking time to sit and enjoy the setting.

Inside, the Thermal Experience is well worth allowing time for. There’s a mix of saunas, steam rooms and an ice fountain, which is perfect if you enjoy contrasting hot and cold experiences and leaving the spa feeling refreshed rather than sleepy.

Best for: a luxury spa break in Cheshire, couples, or a spa day that feels indulgent and social without losing that sense of calm.

Getting here: Around 1 hour by car from Manchester, with Chester station the nearest mainline station.

11. The Spa at Breedon Priory

Derbyshire, England

The Spa at Breedon Priory is one of those places that feels wonderfully tucked away. Set in the Derbyshire countryside, it has a very peaceful, back to nature feel and is ideal if you’re craving something restorative rather than overly busy or showy.

The focus here is on natural wellness, with mud therapy rituals that feel grounding and indulgent in equal measure. The herbal steam rooms are another highlight and are perfect for slowing everything down and easing tension, especially if you’re looking for a spa experience that leaves you feeling balanced rather than overstimulated.

Everything about this spa encourages you to take your time, from the quiet atmosphere to the thoughtful treatment choices, making it a lovely option if you want a gentler, more mindful spa escape.

Best for: a peaceful spa break in the Midlands, natural wellness experiences, or a quiet reset away from crowds.

Getting here: Around 30 minutes by car from Derby, with East Midlands Parkway the nearest mainline station.
