Where to Stay in Berlin: Hilton Berlin

Berlin is a truly fantastic city to visit, and best of all, it takes less than two hours to fly to Berlin from London. Perfectly located within walking distance of the city’s main attractions, the Hilton Berlin offers luxury accommodation and much more. This is the perfect base to explore the city from…

The Hotel…

For me, the Hilton Berlin ticked all of my boxes. It felt like a home away from home – somewhere to retreat to at the end of a long day seeing what Berlin has to offer. In a fantastic location and with public transport right on its doorstep, I’m so glad we chose this hotel for our trip.

The building itself isn’t old – built in 1989, it’s still beautiful, and was constructed specifically to be part of the luxurious East German Interhotels chain. When you walk in, the ground floor is huge and split up into different seating areas with a stunning bar.

This is a five-star hotel, and it’s clear to see why it’s been rated so highly. Our room had an amazing view of the Reichstag Dome. This is a large hotel, and not all of the rooms benefit from this spectacular view, but you can specifically book a ‘Dome view’ room. The accommodation is versatile, and you can choose from family connecting rooms, twin rooms and king rooms, and there are deluxe rooms too.

The interiors are modern and stylish, with luxurious touches without being over the top. The beds are wonderfully comfortable, which is greatly appreciated after spending most of the day on foot. In each room you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a beautiful bright white private bathroom.

If you stay in an Executive room or one of the suites on the top floors, you’ll get an amazing view of the city. Most of the rooms look into the square and you may even get a view of the cathedral, while other rooms have a view of the lovely garden at the back.

Dining at the Hilton Berlin…

During our stay we absolutely loved Listo, the on-site restaurant set at the heart of the hotel. We ate here more than once and I have to say that it was superb every time. You’ll find the restaurant at the centre of the lobby. The menu focuses on modern takes on both international and regional dishes, all created using seasonal produce and high quality ingredients.

After our meal at Listo, we went to Bellboy, an amazing bar that’s just a stone’s throw away from the hotel. Bellboy is far from your average bar, it’s been nicknamed as a ‘theme-park for grownups’, this place is geared towards having fun. The staff are so friendly, and they all work really hard to create an amazing and electric atmosphere. Should you prefer, you can eat here too – the menu offers a wide variety of moorish dishes, and the cocktail list is not to be missed.

Also at the hotel is Restaurant Beletage, which is the perfect spot for an indulgent breakfast to set you up for the day. With a stunning view of Gendarmenmarkt square and the German Cathedral, here you can enjoy an American-style breakfast buffet, including live cooking stations. On offer are pancakes, bacon and eggs, smoked salmon, fruit and muesli and even sparkling wines. There are also vegetarian and vegan alternatives too.

The ‘Extras’…

At the hotel you’ll find an amazing health club. This is a lovely addition that really encourages you to take some downtime, to recover after long days exploring. At the health club you’ll find a 46 foot indoor pool that’s great for a relaxing swim, but there’s also aqua-fit classes on offer too. There’s also a steam room, warm ‘baths’, body scrubs and body wraps on offer.

The spa uses ELEMIS products, and offers an extensive treatment menu including hot stone massage, mud baths and facials, as well as manicures and pedicures. There are packages too, perfect for a spa day or a couples experience.

The 24-hour gym has everything you could ever need, and finally the ground floor is home to a couple of boutique stores, including an art gallery.

The hotel also benefits from a very helpful concierge desk, where the staff are happy to help you with anything you need, such as dinner reservations or hiring bikes for the day.

The Location: the Mitte District…

Mitte is the most central district within Berlin, making this an incredible location for sightseeing, bars, restaurants and shopping. The hotel is set on the historic Gendarmenmarkt square, which is also home to an 18th century concert house and two domed cathedrals. Lots of the main tourist attractions are within a 20-minute walk from the hotel, such as Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, Potsdamer Platz, the Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor and the Berlin Wall.

Just outside the hotel, you’ll find the Stadtmitte station – the central station for the U-Bahn, which is Berlin’s underground train. This makes it incredibly easy to get around and see other parts of the city.

The Hilton Berlin offered everything and more for a fantastic trip in Berlin. Not only was getting to see all of the places on my bucket list easy, I also thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent at the hotel, particularly the spa and Listo.
